Final post

The book I chose to stand up for was the book called the brown girl dreaming by the author called Jacqueline Woodson. The reason why I would want middle schoolers to read this book is because this book is both entertaining and challenging for the readers and english teachers should always make sure to make the books they choose for the class to be both entertaining and challenging. But some people argue that children grow to fast but in this story she talks about how Woodson life and how she lived through all of her struggles that she went through and how she dealt with those struggles. But the struggles that she went through in her life could help the readers and see that their dreams can come true. Because in that story she talked about how she always wanted to be a writer and how much she loved it even though that job was not easy but she wanted to do it regardless and she tries and achieve her goals throughout her life and she finally got a book published so she finally achieved her goals and she was very proud of herself for never giving up on her dreams. But this story basically shows how she never gave up and empowered herself because she knew her dreams could come true if she tried hard enough. Also, another thing you could ask if “even though that book is easy to read why should the students read it in class time instead of reading a better book that they can learn more from”. But the first thing I want to say is that this book is written in poetry and this book allows the students to have many conversations about the book because the book is about history and about a girl living in a historical time. And the students can learn many things from her point of view because of how she talked about in. But overall this book allows the students to both find the book interesting to read and educating.

Children and Young Adult Literature is literature for children who are not an adult yet. But when I think about Children and Young Adult Literature I think of it being colorful and full or sparkles and things that are in children books and teaching life lessons to children. And many of the violence and bloodshed is not included. But there would be any pictures since children are more drawn to pictures since they might not be able to read fully yet so its more better for them to have books that have many pictures in them since those pictures will help them understand the story better. Even thought that book might have a-lot of pictures those pictures can actually help the children in many ways other then understanding the story for example it could help them be more creative because of all the colors and drawings in the book and it could help them connect the pictures to the words. But I remember early in the semester I choose a book called the rainbow fish. And I know that some children might not understand why the fish is rainbow but the reason why the fish is rainbow is because the rainbow fish was considered as the most beautiful fish in the ocean because of the scales he had was a rainbow and when other fishes saw him they wanted to be like him but the rainbow fish keep those scales to himself and since he did not share he was a lonely fish because no one liked him because he was acting selfish and the other fishes thought he was rude and did not want to play with him anymore so in result his scales begin to mean not much to him because "no one to admire them."  But also while I was reading this book I could tell that the fish was very said at the fact no one wanted to play with him anymore but when he took the advise from the octopus he decided to give his scales one by one just so everyone could like him again. But this shows why illustrations are very important in children’s books. Now I will be talking about the young adult literature and for this one people in both high school and middle school have read theses and others too. But majority of them do talk about lifes issues or world issues even the ones that are difficult to talk about. But many young adults can relate to those issues that are being talked about because they will know that there are other people in the same situation and that would make the read feel that they have hope. But one of the books we read that did stick out to me in young adult lit is the don't call me crazy. And the reason why I said this book is because they talked about some real things like depression. But the author writes “I define “depression,” but depression does not define me because you cannot define a person. Not with a single word, not with an entire book. Human beings defy definition. Yet the stigma surrounding mental illness makes some believe we can use it to define others, and it often deceives us into believing we must use it to define ourselves.” (page 387). Because people did used to still and maybe still do think that depression is a type of mental illness. But depressions should not define who a person is regardless if it is a mental illness or not. But overall this story talked about how depressions is not who someone is and how they act and define who they are.
