In the Youtube Video “The Problem with Cancel Culture” what I found very interesting was that there is many things wrong with Cancel Culture. Because people do change and the fact people could get cancelled because of a mistake they made because they were uneducated on the matter or just ignorant is sometimes wrong. And the reason why it's wrong is because we should try and educate them on the matter they were wrong on and hope they listen and learn from that experience and grow as a human being. Because in the end of the day everyone makes a mistake and we all are not perfect and we should not act like we have not thought or said something offensive to a certain group or person in our entire lives. So, overall what I am trying to say its always better to educate instead of trying to cancel someone because we all grew up differently and might not be educated on those matters that are offensive to someone different then you.
In the article “How to Get the Most Out of a Diverse Classroom Library” it talks about how books can become “windows and mirrors” for kids. We need the books to act as “mirrors” to that the children can relate to the characters of the book they are reading. We also need books to act as “windows” so the children can learn many valuable skills that would help them out in the future. Like for example they could build empathy, learn how to summarize, compare and to contrast, and etc. Also, so they could put them themselves in the same situation as the character and see what they would do.The key points of the article is that both “mirrors and windows” are needed in children’s books for many different reasons. But the reasons why they need it is to get a better understanding of everything and get a better understanding of how the world and society works. But my thoughts on this article is that children can learn many different things and develop many different skills just by reading a book.
The three books I plan of to include in your classroom canon/library is “ The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend” by Dan Santat. Because this book made me feel sad and happy at the same time because all the child wanted was to be a real child because he feels different. And this book does teach lots of lessons throughout the entire book as well. And the next book I decided to choose “We Are Family” by Patricia Hegarty. And the reason why I decided to choose this is because this book is about family and how it is important. And the last book I choose was The Funny Little Woman illustrated by Blair Lent. And the reason why I decided to choose this is because it seems like an amazing book to read because it is about a woman who loves to laugh.
