Playlist for Persepolis

The first song I chose was "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)"--Eurythmics (1983) because it relates to the "sweet dreams" Marji has about G-d and her future as either a prophet or a revolutionary. And it is similar to the story in a way.

The second song I choose was "99 Luftballoons"--Nena (1984). And the reason why I chose it was because this song to represent Marji's move to Austria in the second part of Persepolis. Satrapi examines the difficulty of maneuvering in a country where she doesn't know the language over several page

The third song I chose was "I Ran"--A Flock of Seagulls (1982). And the reason why I chose it was because Marji obviously runs away, leaving Iran for Austria, but the lyric "I couldn't get away" is the most important here. Marji leaves the dictatorship in Iran for alienation in Europe. She finds that no matter where she runs, she encounters problems that make her question her identity.

The fourth song I chose was "Sunday Bloody Sunday"--U2 (1983).And the reason why I chose it was its similar to the Iranian Revolution and its about blood shed.

This last song I chose was "Another Brick in the Wall" by pink Floyd. And the reason why I chose it was this song can reflect on Marji's experience as a child in Iran, "Comfortably Numb"reflects her experience as a teen in Europe, getting bombed out of her mind on drugs with Ingrid.
