Hi, Jacqueline I know that throughout your entire life you probably felt different because of your skin tone and how people where treating you. I know how it feels to feel different because when I was younger I was the only african american muslim at my middle school and I felt very left out even though I was not bullied but I felt very different because I had no one who I could relate to at that school so I became very anti-social and did not talk unless I had to even though Its not the same as how you felt but I think that is a kinda of similar feeling. But I honestly know that you are very loved by your family because of the fact your mother protected you and your siblings so they didn’t get hurt and that showed how much she loved you guys children. But I find it cool that it all happened around the time of the civil rights movement because that was a interesting time in american history that not everyone was treated equally but I really do not understand why that was a issue to begin with and why did they even have to fight for a right that they should already have regardless of who they are. But I also like the part when your grandmother said “The children can choose their own faith , when they’re old enough. In my house, my grandmother says, you will do as I do.” (p.135) Because keping your faith is very important to me too because your faith is apart of your identity and who you are as a person because faith can influence your life in many ways. But overall what I am saying that faith is what helped alot of people during that time of history. And I hope that you made the most out of your life even thought it was during a rough era.
